Defence Headquarters, (RBDF): As the Royal Bahamas Defence Force continues the search and rescue operations for an overdue vessel with three individuals onboard, family members gathered on Monday 8 February 2021, at HMBS CORAL HARBOUR to receive updates.

In a meeting chaired by Acting Captain Coral Harbour, Captain Shawn Adderley, the family members were briefed on the case history, search methods, the coordination between partnering agencies, and the expansion of the search area.

Captain Adderley stated: The Royal Bahamas Defence Force along with its partnering agencies, have covered over a hundred square miles in search of the missing boater. The search area extended from the Berry Islands to New Providence and its surrounding cays, to Eleuthera, Current Island, Spanish Wells, and the northern Exuma Cays.

According to Commander William Sturrup, RBDF’s Search and Rescue Coordinator, the search and rescue mission for the missing boats has been suspended after eight days of extensive coverage and unsuccessfully locating the vessel or its occupants. However, the vessels on patrol around New Providence and its cays, Eleuthera, and its cays along with the Exumas will all be on the lookout for the 12-ft white dinghy.

Anyone having additional information or anyone coming across this vessel should contact the Defence Force’s Operations Center at 362 3814/5. The RBDF wishes to thank all of those who are involved and pledges its continued commitment to this matter.
