Star Studded Panel to Choose the New Miss Bahamas World

Nassau, Bahamas – An impressive array of judges has been amassed for the difficult task of selecting the next Miss Bahamas World from amongst the beautiful young women collectively known as the Earth Angels. International and local experts from the fields of pageantry, beauty and fashion will spend three days this weekend selecting the nation’s newest beauty ambassador.

Noted fashion stylist, beauty expert and television personality Nolé Marin heads the list of international celebrities who will be judging the prestigious event. Nolé served as a judge on the hit television reality series America’s Next Top Model and True Beauty and has contributed as a fashion expert on numerous television shows and celebrity events such as the Academy Awards, the Golden Globe Awards, Cannes Film Festival, VH1 Fashion Awards, and the New York Fashion Week. His clientele includes Tommy Hilfiger, Tyra Banks, Iman, Hugh Jackman, Heidi Klum, Lenny Kravitz, Alicia Keys, Kanye West, Ricky Martin, Beverley Johnson, and Chloe Sevigny. He is a coach on the MTV hit show “Made”, and serves as creative director for Canada’s Next Top Model.

Also judging is a young lady who created quite a stir in the 2007 Miss Universe pageant. Flaviana Matata is a beauty queen who won the very first edition of the Miss Universe Tanzania pageant in 2007, and went on to represent her country in the Miss Universe pageant the same year, where she placed among the Top 15 semifinalists in 6th place after the evening gown competition. She was the first contestant from Tanzania to compete at Miss Universe, and she did so with flair - competing with a shaved head. Now based in South Africa, she is in high demand as a supermodel across the continent and in Europe.

Serving as head judge is fashion designer and pageant expert Bobby Ackbarali. Mr. Ackbarali has worked in the international fashion and pageant industries for nearly thirty years; achieving an unparalleled record of success in his native Trinidad and Tobago before migrating to Toronto, Canada. More than 125 pageant title holders have benefited from his experience as a coach and image consultant in the international pageant industry, many of who have gone on to win or become a finalist in their respective international competitions.

Former Miss Bahamas Tasha Ramirez Cartharn has returned home to serve as a juror. Ms. Cartharn has been involved in pageantry for over 21 years. She won the titles of Miss Grand Bahama 1988 and Miss Bahamas 1988-1989, and competed in the 1989 Miss Universe Pageant held in Cancun, Mexico as well as the Miss Model of The World Competition held in Taipei, Taiwan in 1990. Since competing, Tasha has served in the capacity as a volunteer, pageant coach, judge & director for the Miss USA/Miss Universe/Miss Teen USA and Miss America Preliminary Pageants systems.

Brynda Knowles is an award winning fashion designer, make-up artist, and a four time Bahamian Designer of the Year award recipient. She has travelled extensively representing The Bahamas with The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism. A former Manager of The Beauty Spot, she has also won numerous awards in the Theatre (DANSAS - for Makeup and Costumes). She is also the recipient of Zonta's Living Legends Award 2008 in the field of Fashion, which is being exhibited at The Central Bank of The Bahamas. Brynda is President of the marketing and consulting company The Fashion Group, and she is the Pret-a-Porter and Couture designer for Brynda's Haute Couture. She now serves as Senior Fashion Consultant at Mode Iles Ltd - Islands of The World Fashion Week - winners of the best Fashion Week in the Caribbean - 2008.

Dr. Gregory C. Neil M.D. is well sought after as a cosmetic surgeon in The Bahamas. He holds the following credentials: · Diploma, American Board of Plastic Surgery · Certification Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Medical College of Virginia · Awarded the S. Dawson Theogaraj prize for academic excellence in the U.S. Nationwide Plastic Surgery Evaluations · General Surgery Residency, St. Lukes-Roosevelt / Beth Israel Hospital, N.Y., N.Y. · Bachelor of Medicine. Bachelor of Surgery (MB BS), University of the West Indies, Jamaica · B.Sc. (Honors) University of Windsor, Canada. Dr. Neil is also the Official Cosmetic Surgeon of the Miss Bahamas Organization®.

Rounding out the panel is a former Miss World Bahamas. Latia Bowe-Duncombe was crowned in 2000 and represented the Bahamas at Miss World in London the same year. She is a former model and has travelled the Caribbean representing the Bahamas. Latia is passionate about pageantry and has judged pageants locally and internationally. She is an accountant by profession, and employed with the Bristol Group of Companies Limited. She also serves as the Director or Finance for the Miss Bahamas Organization.

The judges will adjudicate the Evening gown and Talent Competitions on Friday evening at the British Colonial Hilton hotel. They then meet the contestants face to face during one-one-one interviews on Saturday. And then the Grand Finale will be held on Sunday evening at the Rainforest Theatre when a new Miss Bahamas World will be crowned.
