Nassau, Bahamas – 25th October, 2016 – After the highly anticipated return of students to school today following the long break due to Hurricane Matthew, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology is pleased that to note that all public schools that were slated to open today, welcomed students back.

The re-opening of schools scheduled for later this week will remain the same however, two schools will re-open on Monday, October 31st, 2016.

Discussions with the three contractors and administrators of the Government High School (GHS) in New Providence as well as the contractor and District Superintendent in Grand Bahama, led to a decision being made to delay the re-opening of GHS and Bartlett Hill Primary in Grand Bahama until Monday, October 31st, 2016. While we are eager to have students return to school, safety remains a top concern. As such, in the best interest of all involved, students will not report to school until Monday. October 31st, 2016.

As for the students of GHS, only the 10th and 12th graders are to report to school on Monday, October 31st and the 11th and 12th graders will report on Tuesday, November 1st.

We thank the parents and students of these two schools for their patience and understanding and we wish to reassure them that we are doing our best to ensure that students are able to return to school as soon as possible in the safest learning environments.
