Week-long Competition provides
opportunity to Create and Develop Business ideas for Entrepreneurs
Nassau Bahamas - A creative group of young Bahamian and International entrepreneurs will
embark on a week-long journey focused on developing business ideas and concepts
this summer. The competition, entitled “Starter Island” is scheduled for August
21-28 2015, and invites teams of entrepreneurs to plan and strategize their
concepts for products and ideas, while vying for the grand prize.
Organized by dynamic and
innovative entrepreneur group “Shift the Culture”, Starter Island participants will
board a Double-masted Schooner called Beacon Won and develop their business
ideas, practice pitching their concepts, explore the islands and restore their
creative energy with stops between New Providence and the Exumas. Once
completed, the teams will return to New Providence and present their ideas in
the finals to an audience and a panel of judges, who will determine the grand prizewinner.
“The initial response for
participation in Starter Island from the Bahamian and international
entrepreneurial community has been phenomenal,” said Team Leader Travis Miller.
“We have received applications from over 40 potential participants to date. The
response from the corporate community has been encouraging, as we have received
support from Green Parrot, Fun Foods, Bahamas International Film Festival, brands
under Asa H Pritchard, Fine Threads and Manor of Love thus far. We are still
appealing to the corporate community for additional sponsorship in order to
make this happen, to show support for young entrepreneurs in The Bahamas.”
