Provider Registration Kit for New NHI Primary Care Providers
Nassau, The Bahamas – Following round one of Primary Care Provider registration, which closed on March 31st, over 60 physicians in the private sector have applied with NHI Bahamas and are looking forward to providing Primary Care services to Bahamians. These numbers will be further augmented by Primary Care Providers in the public sector, across the country, from the Department of Public Health and Public Hospitals Authority.
Providers signed up include general practitioners, family doctors, internists, OBGYNs and pediatricians. While this cohort will be among the first group of doctors Bahamians will be able to select when Enrolment starts, registration of Primary Care Providers will remain open as more providers from across the country continue to sign up for NHI Bahamas. Phase two of NHI Bahamas – Enrolment of Beneficiaries – will start in April, and phase three – Primary Care services – will follow shortly thereafter.
Bahamians will be able to select their Primary Care Provider at the time of Phase 2 - Enrolment. Moreover, Bahamians will be able to select a preferred provider from the public or private sector under NHI Bahamas.
“We are pleased with the positive response from the provider community during the first round of Primary Care Provider registration for NHI Bahamas and are looking forward to starting enrolment soon, so Bahamians can start selecting their preferred doctor,” said Peter Deveaux-Isaacs, Permanent Secretary, National Health Insurance Secretariat.
Once enrolment has progressed, the Primary Care phase will begin during which all legal residents of The Bahamas will be able to receive Primary Care services at no cost at point of service, including the more than 200,000 Bahamians who do not currently have health insurance.
The NHI Secretariat continues to encourage Bahamians who have not already gotten their NIB Smart Card to do so to ensure they are ready for enrolment. Details on how and where to enrol for NHI Bahamas will be provided in the coming weeks.
