Bahamas select four winners in its “Say Yes Marriage Proposal” Contest - Jan 17, 2018 - 9:39:33 PM

Four winners have been selected from the recent “Say Yes” Marriage Proposal contest, which ended December 15, 2017 and was organized by The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation (BMOTA) in conjunction with Paparazzi Proposals of New York.  More than 300 grooms from throughout the United States of America submitted entries into the six weeks social media contest, with hopes of winning a surprise marriage proposal and four days three nights stay at any of four islands in The Bahamas:  Abaco, Exuma, Nassau or Paradise Island.

The winners, who were selected from a panel of qualified judges, have been notified but will be named after their proposal on February 14, 2018...

Some forty of the top producing travel agents including Bahamas travel specialists from throughout Florida were recently hosted to a mega familiarization trip to Nassau, Bahamas by the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation (BMOTA) Florida sales office.  The trip in partnership with the Bahamas’ major stakeholders and key industry partners, afforded the agents the opportunity to experience firsthand, the newest tourism developments and destination assets in The Bahamas.

At a recent Bahamas Ministry of Tourism USA Sales and Marketing seminar, The Director General (DG) of the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation (MOTA) Mrs. Joy Jibrilu met with the team and took the opportunity to outline the business plan and priorities for Tourism in The Islands Of The Bahamas. The three- day seminar brought together the brightest minds to strategize on how to achieve the Ministry’s goals moving forward into 2018.

The Director General expressed pleasure at the opportunity to meet with members of the team who are based across the U.S. including offices in New York, Atlanta, Florida, Houston and Toronto, Canada.  In sharing the long- term objectives of the Ministry of Tourism, the DG said that, "the tourism industry must be driven by initiative, innovation, and creativity."...

The newly appointed Bahamas Consul General to Florida and the Southern States, Mrs. Linda Mackey, recently visited the offices of The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Florida and pledged that, "as a partner from the Consulate I will work closely with you to ensure that all of our visitors to The Bahamas have a great experience."

More than $141,000 was awarded this weekend in Bimini at the First Bimini Wahoo Meat Mayhem Fishing Tournament, held November 16-18, at Resorts World Bimini.

Organized by Captain Jimmy Wickett, President of Meat Mayhem Tournaments, some 24 boats, from across the USA including Florida, Alabama, Texas, South Carolina and Maryland as well as Grand Bahama Island and as far as Germany, and each paying a registration fee of $3,000, participated in the two-day fishing event...

On November 16, 2017, Lakeland Linder Regional Airport in Lakeland, Florida commissioned its airport facility as the newest port of entry for U.S. Customs and Border Protection clearance.  Four pilots who arrived into the Lakeland Airport facility out of Grand Bahama Island on a Cessna 182 series aircraft, owned by Sun n Fun, were the first international pilots and aircraft to be welcomed into the new facility...

Bahamas hotels, yacht and marina operators from throughout the islands were in full attendance at the recent 2017 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS), held November 1-5, 2017 in Fort Lauderdale.  The Bahamian operators were there to ensure that the boating enthusiasts knew that the marinas in The Bahamas were not impacted by the recent storms that devastated parts of the Caribbean, and that they are in fact, open for business and ready to book.

Some 1,200 boats in-water, were featured at the world’s largest in-water boat show, which bought together 105,000 international buyers and sellers from 50 countries.  FLIBS’ 58th event showcased 1,000 exhibitors who displayed their marine products and accessories...

Bahamas Jr. Minister of Tourism 2017 Michael Wallace secured a second-place finish at the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) Youth Congress in Grenada, on Friday.
 
Wallace, a student of St. Anne’s School in New Providence, presented on the topic, “Signature Tourism Products – Strengthening the image of your destination”. Wallace presented the idea of The Island Hop, a proposed mini-cruise experience throughout The Islands of The Bahamas. The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) elected The Bahamas as President of the Commission for the Americas (CAM) at the 22nd session General Assembly held in Chengdu, China, September 10 – 17, 2017. Bahamas Minister of Tourism and Aviation, the Hon. Dionisio D’Aguilar, will assume the seat on behalf of the country for the next two years.

The Bahamas is back to business as tourism resumes after mainly cosmetic clean-up in our major tourism centers, while efforts to rebuild in those islands of The Bahamas that were hardest hit continue.

As of Tuesday, Sept. 12, all airports in The Bahamas are open and both international and domestic service has resumed. Major hotels in Nassau have already welcomed newly arrived guests, and cruise ships are expected to begin calling at ports in The Bahamas today. Recreational marinas have also reopened after reporting mostly no damage.

PLANTATION, Florida – (August 3, 2017) – Captains Sean Murray and Colin Gray, pilots from Cape town, South Africa said, that they had always been fascinated with the beauty of The Bahamas and had dreamed of flying there.  They decided to make their dream a reality and combined their trip to The Bahamas with the recent EAA Air Venture Conference in OshKosh, Wisconsin, which climaxed July 31, 2017.
