McClean's Town, Grand Bahama - For the 42nd time in as many years, the uniquely Bahamian competition of ‘Conch Cracking’ will be held in the place of its origin, McLean’s Town, East Grand Bahama on October 13th, the holiday Monday of Heroes Day.

The unbroken annual event is held as part of a heritage festival for the community of McLean’s Town and the school.

The Conch Cracking Committee takes this opportunity to invite the public to join in the fun-filled activities with the residents of this traditional Bahamian fishing village, as an appropriate way to celebrate our Bahamian Heroes Day.

Conch Cracking competitions will dominate the day with various categories from tourists, some of whom may be touching the conch for the first time in their lives; corporate competition; open women; and open men championships.

This year a special invitation is being extended to companies throughout Grand Bahama to send one or more employees from their companies to represent them in the corporate category to crown for bragging rights as the Corporate Conch Cracking Champion for 2014/15.

Let’s go Ship Yard; BORCO; ZNS; banks; BTC; Cable Bahamas; Grand Bahama Power; Container Port; insurance companies; Gold Rock; police; Statoil; etc.

There is a desire by the committee and residents to grow and preserve this important event in McLean’s Town. Plans are afoot to expand the Conch Cracking Competition to a national championship where the champions from various Family Islands of The Bahamas will compete for the title of World Champion Conch Cracker.

Folks from McLean’s Town and Sweeting’s Cay jealously guard their reputation as the fastest conch crackers in The Bahamas and extend an open invitation each year to anyone to challenge them at the championship – this year is no different; and next year will be an even bigger competition for the challenge – the world.

This year an opportunity is also extended to businesses to become sponsors of the event at the following levels:

1. Pink Pearl - $1,500.00

2. Black Pearl - $1,000.00

3. Conch Salad - $500.00

Fitting recognition and acknowledgement will be given to all sponsors leading up to the festival, during the festival and afterwards. Sponsors will be allowed banners, patron status, present awards, given acknowledgement and credits, and shown appreciation.

Take the comfortable drive, make it a family fun day or hang with your friends in a safe environment with great food (conch & seafood especially); sweet treats; assorted drinks; games; BINGO; hoop-la; kayaks; arts and craft; bird watching tour; friendly conch cracking competition; and friendly people. For the first time this year, a photo art exhibition featuring East Grand Bahama will be held, including some of the craft of the area. A special feature will be the ability to have any of your pictures reproduced on the spot and to have any of the photos in the exhibition that you like reproduced for you at reasonable prices.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you in McLean’s Town on the holiday participating in this truly heritage and historic event.
