Nassau, Bahamas - A swashbuckling Chicago couple became the latest pirates of the Caribbean recently when they had their fun-filled, pirate-themed wedding at Goodman’s Bay, in Nassau.

Matthew and Angelalynn Padua said there was no other place they wanted celebrate their love on the high seas than in The Islands Of The Bahamas.

“We just always wanted a Pirates of the Caribbean wedding,” Mr. Padua said.

“It just made sense to come here and get married and have a good time. We just had to come to Nassau,” Mrs. Padua said.

Many of the bridal party and guests were on board with the theme as they dressed in pirate hats, scarves and even shoes.

When it came to bringing the treasured memory to life, CEO of Destination Angels International Cindy Coakley-Knowles said once the couple contacted her, it was a “no-brainer”.

“It’s almost obvious. Nassau and the rest of the Islands Of The Bahamas are a great backdrop for a pirate-themed wedding. The things that you would use to set it up like the lumber and the drift wood are all things that you can find here on the island,” she said.

“Planning weddings for tourists is a wonderful experience. You get to meet people in the best setting because they’re in love and it’s all about romance. For the most part, it’s their first time to the islands and so getting married here is a memory they will never forget.”

Weddings like these are quite the bounty for the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation and the Bahamas Bridal Association.

Senior Manager of Weddings and Romance Ava Thompson said The Bahamas has become the number one choice for destination weddings.

“The reason why people choose The Bahamas is because it is so easy to get to and there is not a long process,” she said. “We have an amazing relationship with the Bahamas Bridal Association. And when people come to The Bahamas they usually get married on one island, honeymoon on another and explore on even more and so we are very versatile.”

The world has also fallen in love with getting married in The Islands Of The Bahamas. Just recently, the destination was the recipient of the World Travel Awards’ World’s Best Wedding Destination 2018.
