FREEPORT, Grand Bahama Island - The Ministry of Tourism’s Call Center is now ready and equipped to service inter-island travel through a new partnership with Bahamian-operated booking engine BahamaGo.

Since its inception in January 2014, the Call Center – launched by Island Outsourcers – has remained a major asset to The Islands of The Bahamas through the Bahamas.com and 1-800-Bahamas communication tools.

This new partnership with the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and BahamaGo has now positioned Call Center agents to facilitate the booking process for both international and domestic travelers.

According to Director for Global Communications in the Ministry of Tourism Andre Miller, this new partnership will “provide more ownership of our consumer experience and will ensure the proper quality assurance to convert the consumer.”

BahamaGo will provide a web-based portal for call center agents to utilize the technology and execute domestic travel packaging for air and hotel arrangements.
The marriage provides a technological breakthrough for the Call Center, as local air carriers – with the exception of Bahamasair – are not visible via the GDS (Global Distribution System), which drives large online travel agencies to search flight information for consumers’ bookings.

“We are looking to empower the call center agents with this capability so they can at least be able to book travel within the destination while on the phone, eliminating the need to transfer the call to another agency,” Miller said.

The strategic alliance of the Ministry of Tourism’s Call Center and BahamaGo is the beginning of a more integrated approach that will, in months to come, enable this same technology to exist on Bahamas.com.
