Captain Mickey pays a special visit to students displaced by Hurricane Dorian
Nassau, The Bahamas - In support of the company’s ongoing efforts to provide joy during the holiday season, Disney Cruise Line and Captain Mickey brought the magic of storytelling to more than 200 students at Albury Sayle Primary School in Nassau, including children who were displaced due to Hurricane Dorian’s impact.
“There’s nothing like bringing a smile to a child’s face and spreading good cheer, especially during this special time of year,” said Jeff Vahle, president of Disney Cruise Line. “We are passionate about supporting children and providing support to recovering communities across The Bahamas. I’m grateful for the generosity of our crew members who make magical moments like these possible in our local port communities.”
During their visit, Disney Cruise Line gifted 625 read-a-long books to Albury Sayle Primary School to help foster the power of imagination among students. Also this holiday season, Disney Cruise Line crew members delivered gifts to more than 1,500 children in hospitals, schools and children’s care facilities throughout The Bahamas, the Caribbean and in Papenburg, Germany.
Disney Cruise Line has been a longstanding partner of the Bahamian community, co-hosting events like these with the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and assisting with education efforts for more than a decade. Disney crew members also make regular reading visits to schools in Nassau throughout the year. Disney’s annual holiday visits are one of the many ways Disney Cruise Line is dedicated to collaborating with communities in ports of call around the world.
The Walt Disney Company, led by Disney Cruise Line, has played an important role in Hurricane Dorian relief and recovery efforts, donating more than $1 million in cash and in-kind support to The Bahamas. Disney has partnered with three leading disaster relief and recovery organizations – the American Red Cross, the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and All Hands and Hearts. Additionally, Disney Cruise Line is supporting its Bahamian-based crew members who live in impacted areas. So far, Disney has provided an additional $500,000 in supplies and direct aid to affected employees.
