New York, NY - The following is a statement by Bahamas Director General of Tourism Joy Jibrilu:
We are extremely proud of the magnificent performance the Bahamas
All-Star Band gave at the 2014 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade this morning.
Through blistering cold weather, the young group of 120 took New York
by storm proudly playing Bahamian music and showcasing uniquely Bahamian dance
moves.
The
Bahamian band was fourth on the prestigious lineup, joining the top marching
bands in the United States, theatre performers, elaborate floats, and famous
balloons.
This is
the first time in the parade's 88 years that an international marching band has
been selected to participate.
More
than 3.5 million lined up along the parade route to view the famous
Thanksgiving Day parade live, and more than 50 million viewers watch on
television and internet each year.
The Ministry of Tourism is proud to have sponsored such a wonderful
performance and such an historic moment in our history.
We also extend our congratulations to Band Director Luke Caley on this
stellar performance.
All Bahamians should be proud to see our Bahamian youth display our
culture to the world in such a tremendous way.
