Bahamian Coalition Galvanized to Assist with Bahamas Hurricane Relief Efforts in South Florida

Fort Lauderdale,  FL  -  A coalition of Bahamian entities, organizations and associations was recently formed in South Florida, to assist with Hurricane Relief efforts to The Bahamas.  Among its successes to date, The coalition have identified a number of places where South Floridians can drop off relief items to assist those in The Bahamas affected by the dangerous Category 4 Hurricane Matthew.  

The destructive Hurricane Matthew slammed into The Bahamas October 6th-7th, battered many of its Islands and left massive destruction and devastation in its wake.

The coalition led by The Bahamas Consul General's Office and The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, South Florida, was formed to organize the efforts of Bahamians and friends of The Bahamas in the South Florida area, anxious to assist the neighboring country land. Other members of the coalition include a diverse array of persons from local Bahamian politicians and church leaders to Bahamian organizations and associations, from across South Florida.

The group came together at a recent meeting to discuss means of helping the thousands of Bahamians that have been affected by the powerful storm through loss and damaged homes to being without power and water and even temporary loss of employment  - in the case of hotel workers and persons employed by businesses damaged or destroyed.

Monetary donations can be made via the National Association of Bahamians website at NABMIAMI.ORG.  Donations can also be made to a special bank account that has been opened at Bank of America by the Consulate General  of The  Bahamas under the name "Disaster Relief", account #0037-3910-7501.

Items that have been named as most needed at this time include:

Water
Emergency kits
Clothing (new not used)
Asphalt shingles (40 or 25 year)
Ice and water shields
2x4x16 lumber
2x16x16 lumber
Pressure treated 5/8 inch plywood
