A group of 15 students from The Citadel Military College of South Carolina recently dropped anchor in Nassau for seven days of learning at sea in The Bahamas.

The students were accompanied by crew onboard the Spirit of South Carolina, a 140-foot traditional sailing vessel, for a semester at sea.

The Islands of The Bahamas is a popular destination for students who live, sail and learn how to navigate the vast ocean as part of this unique educational experience – a growing trend among colleges.

During their trip to Nassau, the Citadel students were also able to get a downhome authentic Bahamian cultural experience at a People-to-People hosting.

Thanks to Capt. Richard Bailey and deckhand Caroline Treudler, the Ministry of Tourism’s Sr. Director for Cruise & Maritime Development, Carla Stuart and Sr. Manager Donniemae Munroe were able to get a glimpse of life below deck onboard the Spirit of Carolina.
