Freeport, Grand Bahama - Amongst the region’s numerous entrants
into the FCCA’s Essay Competition annually, it is has become the norm that at
least one of the finalists hails from Grand Bahama, and once again it is true.
Miss
Saida Karamo, a young lady in the 10th grade at Sunland Baptist
Academy was one the finalists this year for the senior division. She was awarded
a cheque of $200 for her achievement.
Each
year, the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA. www.f-cca.com) opens
its Children’s Essay Competition to junior and senior students within the
region. The aim of the competition is to assist students in furthering their
education while letting them think about their own destinations, its
involvement in the cruise industry, and providing an opportunity to problem
solve for the real world. This year’s entrants had to answer the question: “What
does sustainable tourism mean to your destination?”
First,
Second and Third place winners are chosen from the Junior (9 – 12 years old)
and Senior (13 – 16 yrs old) division. Over
19 countries submitted entries this year, including 17
from Grand Bahama (12 Junior, 5 Senior).
