VANCOUVER, B.C., Canada - The focus was all 'Grand Bahama Island' as members of the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Grand Bahama Island Tourism Board, Sunwing
Vacations, Memories Grand Bahama Resort & Spa, Pelican Bay
Hotel, Grand Lucayan, and Forbes Charter Services visited Vancouver, Canada on November 24th and 25th to
showcase the destination and highlight the December 13th launch of direct
flights via Sunwing to Freeport.
Approximately 70 travel agents
spent an evening on-board the Star of Vancouver, and enjoyed Bahamian
music, a Bahamian themed food menu, as they soaked in a plethora of information on the island destination and all
it has to offer.
The introduction of the
Vancouver service took place in October as the Sunwing Airlines now offers eight Canadian gateways into
the island, but this evening focused on how travellers can purchase a direct Sunwing flight from Vancouver to Freeport, Grand Bahama, with or without hotel packages which could have them stay at such places as
Grand Lucayan, Pelican Bay Hotel,
Memories Grand Bahama Resort & Spa, Flamingo Bay Hotel and Marina, and Castaways Resort & Suites.
Grand Bahama lies just 55 miles off the coast of Florida, making it one of the most accessible islands within the Bahamas
archipelago. There is so much to do and see, from para-sailing, jet-skiing, snorkeling, shark dives, jeep tours, nature tours, history tours, nightlife, and so much more.
Sunwing, Memories Resort and Pelican Bay Hotel gave away trips for 2 to the destination. Jalena Jado, Regional Sales Manager, Sears Travel in Burnaby won a 7 night all-inclusive trip to Memories Grand Bahama Beach and Casino Resort including round trip airfare. The next night, at a similar event in Surrey, Fiona Schonewille, Travel Sales Lead / Manager Wedding & Honeymoon Specialist for Sears Travel in Langley also won the 7 night grand prize.
The Bahamas team travels next to Edmonton and then Calgary, where direct flights are already in place out of Calgary. Last month,
Bahamas tourism director general,
Joy Jibrilu said that
Grand Bahama will see an increase in air
arrivals of up to 35 per cent with direct flights from Vancouver and Calgary. This is great news for Grand Bahama, as well as great news for Canadians who are heading into winter.
