Grand Bahama Island Wins 5 Cacique Awards

ALL SMILES - Grand Bahama residents who attended the Cacique Awards on Saturday night at Baha Mar Convention Centre in Nassau were all smiles upon return home, at Grand Bahama International Airport, on Sunday, April 9. FREEPORT, Grand Bahama - Five Cacique Awards up for grabs on Saturday, April 8, went to Grand Bahama residents, with finalists in four categories. The event was held in Nassau at Baha Mar Convention Centre.

The purpose of the Cacique Awards is to recognize the role people and organizations have played in making a positive impact on the quality and growth of tourism in The Bahamas.

Winners were:

Phil Stubbs - Blue Ribbon Panel Award

Wilfred Solomon - Minister of Tourism’s Award for Hospitality

Wilfred Knowles - Willie Love Hospitality Award (accepted by son Darrin Knowles)

Roganna Wilchcombe/Vernetta Frith (Strawtacular) - Handicrafts Award

Evelyn Pinder-Dames - Human Resources Development Award

Finalists were:

Della Bridgewater - Human Resources Development

Keith and Linda Cooper - Sustainable Tourism

Ethlyn Major - Minister of Tourism’s Award

Kevin Tomlinson - Creative Arts

Two new categories were added this year, and Grand Bahamians walked away with both of them.
