FLORIDA, USA -- The combination of Bahamian drinks, music and culture all makes for one thing- a slamming party in the backyard.  Hundreds of USA families were recently treated to just that.

In celebration of Reach Media’s Allstate Tom Joyner’s annual Family Reunion, The Islands Of The Bahamas hosted a “party in da backyard” at the Gaylord Palms Resort in Orlando that was filled with Bahamian delights.

The beat of the goat skin drum, the steady clang of the cowbells and the melodic rhythm of the brass horns, got the party started. As the Bahamas Junkanoo Revue weaved through the exuberant crowd, many partygoers joined in. Also on hand was Bahamian Songwriter and performer Avvy, who performed and treated the guests to a taste of Bahamian folk music- rake and scrape.

It was an incredible event with an amazing atmosphere. The energy was so high. The guests at the Gaylord Palms Resort were dancing and singing and they are still talking about the great party.

Bahamas Tourist Office Representatives from the Florida area participated in the four- day event that attracted over 25,000 persons. The team included Jennifer Gardiner-Bannister, Area Manager,  Florida; Anita Johnson-Patty, General Manager, Global Communications; Donna Mackey, Senior Manager, Sales; and Elke Pettiford, Sales Coordinator.

“These Bahamian themed parties that the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism is hosting around the country gives our partners a real feel for Bahamian culture” said Greg Rolle, Senior Director,  Sales and Marketing, USA.

The Orlando show was the first stop for the sales team who are participating in Florida Peninsula round tables for travel agents in Fort Myers, Tampa and Melbourne.  Information shared  at the Bahamas booth included  Bahamasair’s new deals from Orlando to Grand Bahama Island, the International Women’s Empowerment Summit (IWES), and other updates on The Bahamas.

Since 2003, the Allstate Tom Joyner Family Reunion has become an annual event featuring activities and concerts with exclusive performances by top named singers and comedians. Held over Labor Day weekend in Orlando, Florida, the event has attracted over 15,000 guests with fun, fellowship and entertainment for the whole family.
