Even the fastest man in the world can’t resist the beauty and
charms of The Bahamas.
World record holder Usain Bolt said recently that he was excited
to be in The Bahamas for the BTC IAAF World Relays Bahamas 2015.
Noting that he was there to relax and then compete, Bolt says he
loves the energy of The Bahamas.
“It is the energy. The best thing about coming to different places
is to come to hear the energy from the crowd. The people are really wonderful
and they always show me a lot of love and that’s my favorite part of it,” Bolt
said.
When asked if he would be coming back for vacation Bolt said, “For
sure, without a doubt.”
And he’s not the only track superstar dreaming of a Bahamas
vacation.
Frank Fredricks of Namibia, who won silver medals in numerous
international championships including the Olympics, said he was looking to do
some shopping while he was in The Bahamas.
“I have many Bahamian friends and I take every opportunity I can
to come and visit,” he said.
“I was here last year with my wife but I didn’t get much
opportunity to do a lot except relax on the beach. But this weekend I want to
explore and go to the neighbourhoods to see what the local people eat and see
what I can buy from there.”
Fredericks said last year The Bahamas did a great job of hosting the
IAAF World Relays.
“I think this is going to be an incredible time and I am looking
forward to the atmosphere,” he added.
American Olympian and former world record holder Michael Johnson said
he decided to use his free time in The Bahamas to relax.
“I’ve been here for a few days and it was a great opportunity for
me to do absolutely nothing and it’s a great place to do that,” he said.
Bahamian Olympian and Team Bahamas’ Team Captain Chris Brown said
he wanted his colleagues to enjoy The Bahamas.
“I want my colleagues to go back and tell all their friends and
family that they enjoyed the food, weather and they met some of the friendliest
people in the world and to be able to enjoy and relax during their down time,”
he said.
The Bahamas hosted 800 athletes, their families, friends and over
100 journalists this past weekend at the BTC IAAF World Relays Bahamas 2015.
Officials have already confirmed that the event will be held again
in The Bahamas in 2017.
