Nassau, Bahamas - When the new school year begins, thousands of students will be able to get a snap shot view of the Caribbean through an educational DVD, which features Nassau as one of the best places to visit in the Caribbean.

The DVD – Cities of the Caribbean – was filmed by French filmmaker Patrick Baucelin in conjunction with the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO).

He said it was Nassau’s old British charmed that lured in him to the downtown area.“Nassau is different because of its architecture and colours,” Mr. Baucelin said. “You can tell that it has stayed true to its British roots. The people of the city also make it unique. The way they dress, the way they speak is unlike many others in the Caribbean.”This is the second time Mr. Baucelin has done a travel DVD.

Director of the Training & Education Department/Schools Unit in the Ministry of Tourism Ian Ferguson said he was pleased that Mr. Baucelin decided to feature The Bahamas in his DVD.

“I believe that for a long time the countries of the Caribbean has not taken advantage of the partnerships that we have had. We are more prone to cementing our partnerships with our North American partners but I think that there are so many opportunities that lie with forming partnerships with our Caribbean brothers and sisters,” he said.

“This DVD will teach our children to do just that. This DVD will teach them that we have a beautiful, lucrative market within the Caribbean. We share similar heritage and history and it is vitally important that we keep those connections stronger today.”He added that the DVD would also give Bahamian children a “snapshot view” of the Caribbean.

“Through this DVD they will get to see the difference in culture and that’s wonderful for those who may never get to see those islands,” Mr. Ferguson said.

The DVD was also presented to officials at the Ministry of Education at no cost.Mr. Baucelin said he hopes to circulate the DVD to all schools in the Caribbean.
