The Junkanoo Summer Digital Competition Committee has extended the submissions deadline to August 9, 2020, with voting to begin on August 10, 2020. The extension deadline gives Junkanooers and Junkanoo enthusiasts the opportunity to submit their entries for a chance to win $1,000 in each of the following categories:

  •     Bellers
  •     Drummers
  •     Choreographed dance

The 2020 Junkanoo Summer Festival moved into a digital sphere, including a Facebook live workshop that offered both residents and the international audience the opportunity to learn about one of the most authentic expressions of Bahamian culture.

Junkanoo Artisans led the conversation as they promoted the legacy of the “Greatest Show on Earth” in a 4-day online workshop which began July 27 and ended July 31. Speakers for this year’s festival workshop included Junkanoo legends such as Arlene Nash Ferguson, Chris Justilien, Carolyn Vogt-Evans and Percy Vola Francis. The workshop ended on a high note with a live stream of the Kalik “Who Are We!” documentary.

The Junkanoo Summer Festival Competition consists of three categories: bellers, drummers and choreographed dancers. Entering the competition requires three steps: first, create a video, then upload it to Bahamas.com. Finally, share your entry with family and friends and encourage them to vote, vote, vote! Each entry has the chance to win $1,000.00. Each group is encouraged to be as creative as possible for the chance to win.

Competition Runs: July 20 - August 9, 2020

Voting Begins: August 10 and continues through August 16, 2020

Send your short video, and the big winner could be you! Terms and conditions apply.  For complete details on the Junkanoo Summer Festival Competition, visit Bahamas.com/junkanoo-summer-2020.
