Nassau, Bahamas - Executives and staff at the Ministry of Tourism recently got into the spirit of thanksgiving by attending a special church service at Trinity Methodist Church.

The ministry visits churches regularly to pause and give thanks for blessings on the tourism industry and by extension the country.

Minister of Tourism the Hon. Obie Wilchcombe reminded that everyone should be grateful and thanked the ministry’s employees for their hard work.

“Thank you for all that you do. Thank you for the long hours that you put in and the things we ask you to endure. Thank you for your patience. Sometimes we want more, but let’s be thankful for what we have,” she said.

“Let’s go back to work knowing that we work in a place that provides opportunities for thousands of Bahamians. If we are not out there trying our best and doing our best Bahamians would not have what they do.”

Reverend William Higgs preached a powerful sermon saying this is the time of year that we are reminded that all that we have is because someone has given it to us.

“We should cultivate and be grateful for the blessings. We should not let our disappointments define us. Sometimes we have disappointments and we have difficulties but the disappointments should not determine how we behave and how we should respond. What is supposed to happen will happen. Rise above things that have not happened as we hoped, so that you can be grateful and thankful for what it is,” he said.

“Never let your disappointments destroy your expectations. We understand the circumstances that people in the central and southern Bahamas are living under…but we can’t expect that life will always be like that. I am reminded of the words of Nelson Mandela, who said as he left the prison after 27 years, ‘If I carried out all of my feelings, I would still be imprisoned.”

The Ministry of Tourism will keep in the spirit of thanksgiving by holding a special thanksgiving luncheon on Thursday, November 26 at Pompey Square for visitors and tourism stakeholders and donating food goods to a number of institutions.
