The Bahamas scored some major points in the sports arena this week with Baha Mar using its strategic partnership with the Orlando Magic NBA basketball team to bring in nearly 30 women to try out for the organization’s dance team.

Baha Mar is the official sponsor for the Orlando Magic.

During a special welcome reception at Baha Mar’s Arts and Entertainment and Convention Centre on Cable Beach, the ladies were treated to special eats, music and dance.

Baha Mar’s Director of Partnership and Alliances Matt Albury says the resort is looking for any partnership that would benefit The Bahamas.

“Baha Mar is very happy to be in partnership with the Orlando Magic. We have been the official sponsor for the Orlando Magic this year and we are going to be the official sponsor next year,” he said.

“Partnerships with Baha Mar are a big part of how we spread our message; how we educate people about the luxury options that we have here in The Bahamas. We partnered with the Ministry of Tourism and more specifically the Sports Tourism Department to bring exciting activities in outside key markets and in Nassau. Our hope is that we will have a very prominent place as the ministry brings exciting programmes like golf, tennis, basketball and football partnerships.”

Baha Mar also had a take over night at one of Orlando Magic’s games, where officials spoke to potential clientele about the multi-billion dollar resort and The Bahamas.

“We are looking forward to next year when we partner with them even closer,” Mr. Albury said.

“We absolutely anticipate that we will have the presence of the Orlando Magic players next year. One of the things about the Orlando Magic is that they have a tremendous fan-base and they are looking to travel as well. They want to find out how they can visit The Bahamas and stay at Baha Mar.”

Senior Partnership Development Manager of the Orlando Magic Mike Rodriguez said the organization is extremely happy about the partnership with Baha Mar.

“We are tremendously excited and it is a great opportunity to showcase all Baha Mar has to offer to Orlando residents. We are happy to drive our top guests to the resort. Our top customers have the ability to travel and they are always looking for a new experience that’s top notch and something they have never seen before. They are really excited to come down here in the near future,” he said.

“This is start of a great future in terms of developing unique events for the Orlando Magic. As we continue to develop relationships in The Bahamas it will open up the door for new opportunities.

General Manager of Sports Tourism Development in the Ministry of Tourism Virginia Kelly said these kinds of partnerships help to develop the ministry’s sports events calendar.

“This is one of the things that we are doing in order to broaden our network,” she said. “We want to capture all aspects of sports and the dancers are just another way of doing that. We had the Miami Heat, Florida Panthers and we have people in soccer who want to do some things and so we are doing a number of things to develop Sports Tourism.”

Over the past few days, the women competed for a spot on the Orlando Magic’s Dance Team. They also held a swimwear photo shoot on the beach and collaborated with Baha Mar’s community team to host a dance clinic with a local dance troupe.

The events will climax with the announcement of the official Orlando Magic Dance Team on Friday night.

Director of Dance and Entertainment at the Orlando Magic Jeanine Klem-Thomas said The Bahamas was an easy choice.

“The Bahamas has the perfect backdrop for our swimwear shoot and I can’t take of a better place to have our auditions,” she said.

“I can’t wait to come back to The Bahamas. My family is dying to come back here with me. I hope we have the opportunity to bring the “Magic” back here in The Bahamas.”
