Winners of the 2015 Culinary Fusion Expo

The winners of the Culinary, and Mixology Competitions, that took place at Meeting of the Minds’ Culinary Fusion, were officially announced at a Press Conference, Friday, November 13th, 2015.

The winners for the culinary competition were: Slice of Life in the 3rd place; Sabor in 2nd place; and Memories Grand Bahama Resort in 1st place. For the Mixology competition, the winners were Agave in 3rd place; Sabor in 2nd, and Memories Grand Bahama Resort in 1st.

Director of Food & Beverage, Devin Johnson, and Executive Chef Damion Myers of Memories Grand Bahama Resort said the key to their success is using imagination to put a creative spin on traditional items, using locally available ingredients.

Executive Chef Emmanuel Smith, of Sabor, said that last year he underestimated Memories, but this year he brought his A-game, but unfortunately that wasn’t enough to beat Memories.

He appreciates that they are raising the bar for culinary possibilities, and he looks forward to going toe-to-toe with them again in the future.

Chef Angela Zago representing Slice of Life, a paleo-style catering company, was thrilled to place in the competition as this is her first time entering, and it was a very nerve-wracking (but thrilling) experience for her.

She gave special thanks to Gail Woon, of EarthCare, for encouraging her to enter, and supporting her all the way.

Jillian Lightbourne, speaking on behalf of Move Marketing (the organizers of the event), said they were thrilled with this year’s turnout, which was much more than they expected.

Betty Bethel, Director for Grand Bahama at the Ministry of Tourism, said that Culinary Fusion has become a cornerstone event for the island, noting that it’s the kind of event that people would plan their trip to the island around.

She marveled at the creativity and flavors that were on display at the event, and said she sincerely hoped to see the event continue to flourish for years to come.

The prizes for the Culinary competition were: 1st place: $750; 2nd place: $500; 3rd place: $250.

The prizes for the Mixology competition were: 1st place: $500; 2nd place: $300; 3rd place: $150.
