FREEPORT, Grand Bahama – Victor Darnell and Shametria Almond of Ohio were married on Friday at Enchanted Encounters at The Dolphin Experience by Bishop Leslie Woodside as a part of the ‘16 Weddings 16 Islands on the 16th hour’ Promotion of the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism.

Overcast skies and brief showers throughout the day, did not dampen the spirits of the bridal party, and as if realizing something special was about to happen the rain chose not to fall letting in just enough sunlight and cool air to make the experience more memorable.

As a part of the ceremony, the dolphins jumped, danced and kissed which added to this unforgettable occasion.

The New York couple was chosen from a pool of over 3,000 entrants of couples who were newly engaged from all over the United States. Victor and Shametria also participated in the welcome reception where they met and interacted with the other 15 couples before heading off to their wedding destinations.

The contest also promoted the Islands of The Bahamas as the premier destination in the Caribbean for romance, weddings and honeymoons and simultaneously, showcased the unique flavors, charm and characters of each of the 16 islands participating.

The One Priceless Day (wedding ceremonies) all occurred on Friday, at 16:00 hours on Abaco, Acklins, Andros, Berry Islands, Bimini, Cat Island, Crooked Island, Eleuthera, Exuma, Harbour Island, Grand Bahama, Inagua, Long Island, Nassau, Paradise Island and San Salvador, Bahamas.

This is the second time that this promotion has taken place, as the Ministry of Tourism held it in Europe two years ago. Because of its success, they decided to do it once again, but this time in the United States.

Following the ceremony, the bride gave high praise to the staff of the Ministry of Tourism for coordinating their “Dream Wedding” and said she first heard about it from her mother, but had to do some research to find out what the promotion was all about. After finding out the details, she decided to participate. She said on hearing from the Ministry of Tourism, “When they called us, we were so happy.”

This was not the first time the couple had come to The Bahamas, as they previously visited Nassau on a cruise ship. This was their first time to Grand Bahama and could not wait to continue their celebrations.

The bridal party and family are staying at the Grand Lucayan in Freeport.
