– Top executives  at Sun ‘n Fun, Lakeland, Florida, are advertising and promoting a Fly-Out to Grand Bahama and Marsh Harbour, Bahamas, May 23-27, 2013 on the landing page of the   Sun ‘n Fun website.

Sun ‘n Fun’s President, John “Lites” Leenhouts, was a part of The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism’s Aviation Department’s annual FBO Fam to The Bahamas in 2012.  The Sun ‘n Fun official stated that “The simplicity of getting in and out, and the beauty and enjoyment of travelling to The Bahamas,  makes it an attractive destination for any pilot.”

Other Sun ‘n Fun officials on the Bahamas Fam included, Chairman, Robert ‘Bob’ Knight and Exhibits Manager, Bonnie Perkins.  President Leenhouts said that because of what he was able to experience, during his trip last year, he and his executive team decided to invite the organization’s supporters to 5 days/4 nights Fly-Out.

On their website Sun ‘n Fun are inviting general aviation pilots to join them in an “AIR-rally Sun ‘n Fun style,” and allow The Bahamas to show off their Islands from a new vantage point.”   Sun N Fun officials anticipate that the group for the Fly-Out will be between 30 and 35 persons and 10-15 planes.

Sun 'n Fun is scheduled to take place this year April 9-14
th, 2013 and  is a "Fly-in" and air show held annually at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport in Lakeland, Florida.  The event usually takes place during the second or third week of April. The popular air show was founded in 1974 and was first organized by the local chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association.

The second largest aviation show in the U.S. and the largest in Florida, Sun n Fun participants include owners who fly their aircraft to the event from all parts of the
United States and Canada. Many pilots fly their own vintage, homebuilt aircraft or restored ex-military aircraft.

The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation, have been taking part in the Annual Sun ‘n Fun Aviation event for more than 10 years. The event provides the opportunity to share Bahamas information with the some 200,600 in attendance.  Show goers also have the opportunity to speak  with Bahamas representatives including hoteliers,  Bahamas FBO officials as well as Bahamas Preferred  Florida based FBO executives. Information is available on  all aspects relating to  the beauty of the 700 Islands and the ease of Flying to and around the country.

The Bahamas is the nearest international destination to the South Florida Coast – only 55 miles away at its nearest point – and information on the tropical Island destination is always well received by both the general aviation pilots and aviation enthusiasts who attend the Show.

In addition to the Sun ‘n Fun aviation show, The Bahamas also participates in the largest national aviation show, EAA AirVenture, Osh Kosh, WI.  The Bahamas’ own Chief Aviation Specialist,
Greg Rolle is currently the Chairman of the International Federal Partnership,.  The IFP exhibit as a group annually  at EAA and Rolle  completes his term in that post at the end of this year’s EAA event.

Other Bahamas initiatives against the general aviation market include their
Preferred Gateway FBO program and Bahamas Flying Ambassadors (pilots with extensive experience in flying the Islands of The Bahamas).
