TORONTO, ON--(October 30, 2014) - Residents of Calgary can look forward to an easier way to reach the Bahamas this coming winter with the introduction of a weekly service to Freeport, Grand Bahama that launches November 1, 2014. Departing initially on Saturdays then switching to become a weekly service on Fridays from December 19, 2014, passengers can start off their vacation in style by taking advantage of Sunwing Airlines' award-winning Champagne Service that includes a welcome glass of champagne, complimentary food and wine along with in-flight entertainment offered at no charge. All packages also include a generous 20kg free baggage allowance.

With the introduction of the Calgary service, the airline will offer eight Canadian gateways into the island; a development which has been welcomed by the Grand Bahama Island Tourism Board who believes this enhanced flight schedule has largely been responsible for a revitalization of the island's tourism sector.

Lying just 55 miles off the coast of Florida, Grand Bahama is one of the most accessible islands within the Bahamas archipelago. A laid back, family-friendly destination, this engaging island offers an enticing blend of 'toes-in-the-sand' relaxation and soft adventure. Kayaking, dolphin watching, scuba diving and air boat eco-adventures are just some of the activities that can be enjoyed within its pristine turquoise waters. On land, the island is ripe for jeep safari and mountain biking adventures; while the inimitable Bahamian culture and lifestyle can be savoured at regular fish fries in the traditional village of Smith's Point and Junkanoo style carnival events in Freeport's Count Basie Square.

Sunwing Vacations offers a number of different resorts catering to a variety of tastes and budget. Part of the Sunwing Family Collection™, Memories Grand Bahama Beach Resort & Casino keeps little ones entertained with a supervised kids club featuring appearances from popular characters such as the Berenstain Bears and Toopy and Binoo, on-site splash park and daily activities together with evening entertainment. While adults will appreciate the all-inclusive reservation-free dining options, casino and spa; plus free unlimited green fees at the nearby golf course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr.

Also set on its own beachfront, Grand Lucayan Bahamas is ideal for active couples who can look forward to complimentary access to the Senses Spa, unlimited golf, tennis and non-motorized water sports as part of the generous all inclusive package.

Set on the white sands of Fortuna Beach, the Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach is a great choice for a relaxed family vacation. Little ones are well catered to at this Sunwing Smile Resort™, with a host of specific inclusions from a dedicated children's club and shaded playgrounds to kids' pools and complimentary beach towels delivered to your room. Also, parents will appreciate the family friendly freebies such as 'Kids Stay, Play & Eat Free' deals, exclusive teen rates, and no single supplement for solo parents sharing a room with their kids.

A six-night stay on Grand Bahama is available from $775 per person plus $385 taxes, based on double occupancy of a hotel room from December 13, 2014 at the Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach and includes return direct non-stop flights from Calgary.
