Freeport, GBI Bahamas - The Grand Bahama Island Tourism Board (GBITB) — Mr. Russell Miller, Chairman of The Grand Bahama Island Tourism Board announces the appointment of Mr. Rembert Albury as the new Executive Vice President with immediate effect.

Albury, previously served as a consultant to the GBITB for the last five years and has navigated a course of positive direction for the organization gaining the organization a reputation of excellence both from a Sales and Marketing leadership respect and sound fiscal responsibility. Upon joining the Tourism board in 2010, Albury brought with him a wealth of experience, having recently returned to the Bahamas after an outstanding performance at the Elysian Beach & Bluebeards Beach Club Timeshare/Condo Resorts serving as the area General Manager for Wyndham Vacation Ownership. His ability to demonstrate unparalleled fiscal responsibility lead to the solvency of the current board.

Albury’ decorated career spans over thirty years having worked with several major hotel/resort developments in the United states and the Bahamas, including several in Nassau, Bahamas; The Ambassador Beach Hotel as Food & Beverage Controller and Assistant to the General Manager, Cable Beach Hotel and Casino as Rooms Division Director and Executive Assistant Manager, Whyndam Ambassador Beach Hotel as General Manager and Director of Operations, The Hotel Corporation of the Bahamas as Manager of Hotel Operations, Port Lucaya Resort and Yacht Club, Freeport, Grand Bahama on two separate occasions as General Manager and the Ocean walk Resort, Daytona Beach Florida.

Albury’ strong leadership and people management skills won him the reputation of maintaining an unprecedented working relationship between Management and employees at two of his hotel properties, thus creating a non-union working environment. “It is these skills that Albury has contributed to the Tourism Board and its Member properties to help bring about a change in the overall performance of the destination”, says Russell Miller Chairman of the Grand Bahama Island Tourism Board.

Mr. Miller further states that “Grand Bahama Island has enjoyed a robust US airlift program led by the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and its various stakeholders this past summer/fall. Mr. Albury was especially integral in managing the financial analysis and management of the program which led to very positive results when compared to previous airlift programs”.

“We are confident that under Rembert’s leadership he will help to insure our continued success on Grand Bahama Island. Rembert will continue to work collaboratively with the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, our Hotel partners and other key destination stakeholders to bring about a vibrant Tourism economy for Grand Bahama.”

“Today, Mr. Albury’ appointment as Executive Vice President of the GBITB comes at a time when the Grand Bahama Tourism economy is showing “true signs” of a renaissance. Key indicators of our destination’ renaissance are seen in the 33% increase in air passenger counts into the destination and a 36% increase in room revenues over the previous year. Other signs are the increased hotel room inventory with the opening of the 500-room Memories Resort and increased airlift from both the United States and Canadian Markets. Balearia’ new fast Ferry that will begin service this month offering an increased capacity from 450 to 1000 passengers and the Bahamas Celebration’ new ship “Grand Celebration” will begin service during the month of February with doubled capacity as well.”

Mr. Albury will be responsible for the day to day oversight of the Grand Bahama Island Tourism Board’ matched marketing initiatives for Grand Bahama Island, directing all Sales and Marketing initiatives for the destination as a whole, working closely with the executive body of the board to manage all airlift programs and providing key financial forecast and analysis for the destination. Therefore, on behalf of the entire membership, we congratulate Rembert on his appointment as Executive Vice President of the Grand Bahama Island Tourism Board.
