Winning couple Jose Macias and Patrice Prescott, of Hialeah, Florida, who will wed in Andros.

PLANTATION, Florida  - It is said that giving blood is perhaps one of the greatest gifts one can give and can certainly be a life changer. For Hialeah resident, phlebotomist and paramedic Jose Macias, it was a life changer.

On November 12, 2012, Patrice Prescott, a single mother and Assistant Director of Academics for a business college, walked through his blood bank facility to donate her blood. She was accompanied by her 8-year-old son.

According to Jose, he “had always prayed for someone special but had almost given up on dating. But, the moment Patrice walked through the door, I felt something inside and I knew that she was someone special. He gave her his telephone number and asked her to call, if she had any concerns, something he said he never did before”.

The self proclaimed, very direct and no nonsense Patrice said that while she “was attracted to Jose by his stunning good looks, she was immediately drawn by his instant connection with her son. His great sense of humor, easiness, positive attitude, spontaneity and amazing faith sold me”, she said.

“Jose is incredible! He is one of the most caring persons I know, always wanting to help others. But I am amazed by his strong faith and conviction, no matter what situation he has to deal with, he finds happiness in everything, and believes that God will work it out”.

The two dated for a year before getting engaged in March 2014. Their “engagement was simple, special and romantic,” said Jose. ‘We had a nice quiet dinner in one of the waterfront restaurants in Miami. I had the waiter bring out the desert tray and inside the desert was her engagement ring. On bending knees, I asked Patrice, if she will marry me”.

Patrice said, “while listening to the radio we learned about the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism’s 16 Islands, 16 Weddings One Priceless Day contest, and entered”.

The social media contest provided 16 lucky couples throughout the USA, an opportunity to win a complimentary dream wedding on any of 16 islands in The Bahamas’ 700 islands chain. All sixteen weddings will occur on January 16, 2015 at 16:00 hours.

“When we found out that we had won our dream wedding in The Bahamas, we were shocked but grateful. We cried and thanked God. Not everyone gets this opportunity. It is truly a blessing not to worry about money for a wedding. Now we are able to share this special day with our family,” she said.

The couple will wed in Andros, under the theme “Love In The Deep Blue” in hues of lavender, purple, blue and ivory, reflective of the hues of its waters.

The largest island in The Bahamas, Andros is known for its great barrier reefs, (the third largest in the world), bone fishing and deep waters, which begins at 70 feet deep and plunges to 4,000 feet below.

Among the many gifts the couple will receive are round-trip airline tickets to The Bahamas, a wedding ceremony, reception and honeymoon with four nights hotel accommodations and meals for four, at the luxurious and private Kamalame Cay Resort.

In addition to this, the couple will receive cash rewards from MasterCard®, wedding rings created by Steven Singer Jewelers, a complimentary tuxedo provided by 1888mytuxes and Mon Cheri bridal gown designed by David Tutera and Sophia Tolli and John Bull gift basket.

Contest Partners included MasterCard®, 1888mytuxes.com, Mon Cheri, Steven Singer Jewelers, John Bull and hotels: Stella Maris Resort Club, Hope Town Harbour Lodge, Acklins Island Lodge, Kamalame Cay Hotel, Carriearl Boutique Hotel, Resorts World Bimini, Pigeon Cay Beach Club, Tranquility on The Bay, Pineapple Fields, Valentines Resort & Marina, Sandals Resorts, Grand Lucayan, Island Ocean Villas, Hilton Hotel, Atlantis Resort and Riding Rock Inn.
