Transcript of Grand Bahama Island Tourism Board's Tourism Pulse update presented by Chairman Russell Miller.

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island - As the Ministry of Tourism’s private sector industry partner, charged with the responsibility of guiding strategies and policies.  The Grand Bahama Island Tourism Board’s mission is to: serve as one, unified voice for the industry; strengthen the Grand Bahama Island Tourism economy; proactively promote members' businesses for economic growth; and collaborate with all tourism stakeholders while achieving organizational financial independence.

There are true signs of the resurgence in tourism on Grand Bahama Island.     Our combined effort to revitalize our tourism sector is evidenced by the increasing number of air arrivals, increased length of stay in hotels and an increase in amount of visitor spending throughout the community.

This is due largely to the presence of the Sunwing Travel Group, which initiated new airlift from 6 markets in Canada this past winter, in support of the reopened Reef Village Resort – now Memories Grand Bahama Beach Resort.

Grand Bahama offers the most diversity in a tourist destination in the region.  Three destinations, one island!  Which are:  East Grand Bahama and the Cays, Freeport/Lucaya & West Grand Bahama.

East Grand Bahama and the Cays – with expansive, pristine white beaches and a remote island atmosphere, a place where biodiversity abounds, and eco enthusiasts can discover a variety of ecological wonders.

Freeport/Lucaya – a modern/cosmopolitan city, offering our visitors the modern comforts of home, including gaming and nightlife - dancing, live entertainment, heritage festivals, golf and a wide variety of dining and shopping experiences.

West Grand Bahama – features centuries old traditional urban and Out Island life - sleepy fishing villages, rich Bahamian cultural heritage, and of course the historical capital of Grand Bahama, West End.

Our marketing reach is not limited to International visitors.  We are also increasing our Domestic Tourist traffic, by promoting a “2 Fly-free”. These campaigns are designed to attract a Bahamas Resident originating in Nassau to travel to Grand Bahama Island and enjoy the diversity of Grand Bahama Island.

It’s because of these offered experiences and compelling booking incentives that we are able to net the results that we are experiencing today. And we urge all service providers to embrace this growth opportunity by providing quality service to their internal customer; employees in turn provide a higher level of service to the external customer.

The Global Travel landscape has changed since the year 2000 with the emergence of travel forums such as TripAdvisor, the world's largest travel site, enabling travelers to plan and have the perfect trip.  GBI wants to be hailed by this group as a premier destination that everyone wants to visit. To see what our customers are saying about us today, please go to TRIPADVISOR.COM.

In closing, if there is one attribute that creates a thread among us, it must be our OPTIMISM.

We are proud of our island, and many of us have specifically chosen to live and work on Grand Bahama Island than any other locale, and it is this attitude and confidence that the Grand Bahama Island tourism flag will be confidently raised for economic sustainability – now and in the future.

I am honored and humbled to chair the Grand Bahama Island Tourism Board and implore those of you that have not already done so, I invite you to please come aboard!
