Nassau, The Bahamas - BTC operates the largest mobile network with four hundred towers throughout the country, providing best in class 4G-LTE services. Notwithstanding its ubiquitous coverage, BTC still continues to invest in new upgrades to improve the overall quality of service. The company has announced that it will inject an additional $8.1m in mobile network improvements this year.

Three months ago, Dr. Jonathan Ford was appointed as Vice President for Engineering and Project Management. Since his appointment, he’s taken the bull by the horns to ensure that the network runs at optimal performance. This means continued investments in the network.

Dr. Ford indicated, “We are in the process of adding towers to our network to satisfy the increasing “need for speed” from our customers. In New Providence, we’ve just completed the rebuild of a tower in the Englerston community. At the same time, we’re extending our footprint by installing new towers.”

“We are working on new tower installations throughout New Providence, Grand Bahama and Abaco. We expect to have these installed and operational, to satisfy the demands of the summer period. I’m calling it our “summer of more”, more of what our customers are asking for, we are BTC and we are limitless,” Dr. Ford continued.

BTC is also in the final stages of developing a new app, “BTC Weather” to assist with hurricane awareness, preparation and updates during storms. The app is being developed by a group of local and international experts. “BTC Weather” is expected to be released this month.

“We are now in another Hurricane Season. From recent reports, the season is expected to be above average. We are cognizant that our 315,000 customers will need unfettered access to our mobile services in the event of a hurricane. In addition to using their landline phones, customers depend on our mobile network to keep in touch through a variety of internet based programs and apps,” Dr. Ford continued.

The mobile improvement project’s scope also includes an extensive coverage improvement with the cruise ship port in New Providence. Additionally, the company is also working indoor coverage improvements for Atlantis and Lynden Pindling International Airport, amongst others throughout the country.

Dr. Jonathan Ford is a trained and certified IT professional with over thirty years of telecommunications experience under his belt. He has degrees in Electronics Technology and Electrical Engineering Technology. Jonathan also has a Masters and Ph.D. in Theology. He is an ordained minister and serves as the minister of worship, technology and Christian education at New Destiny Baptist Church. He is also the Academic Dean for the Bahamas campus of New Covenant University.
