Nassau, New Providence / June 29 - Chairman of The Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institution (BTVI), Felix Stubbs, is pleased to announce the appointment of Fulbright Specialist, Dr. Robert W. Robertson, as the first president of the institution. Mr. Robertson reports for duty on June 29.

Mr. Stubbs notes that the board interviewed many good candidates for the presidential post; however, they were “impressed by the international, online and most importantly the adult learning and workforce skills development experiences that Dr. Robertson can bring to BTVI.”

Dr. Robertson has served as the Chief Academic Officer and Research Fellow at the Center for Workforce Diversity, University of Phoenix, Central Florida campus (Orlando, FL) and a Visiting Scholar (Professor of Management) at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. He has more than 15 years of experience in the education industry as a teacher and as an administrator.

Further, Dr. Robertson’s recent selection by the United States Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs to the Fulbright Specialist Program afforded him the opportunity to complete a two week collaborative project with the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia. He helped to develop online classes so the university may expand its reach to improve skills development throughout Slovenia in a more flexible manner, suitable to match the needs of working professionals.

Dr. Robertson has also served as a city planner and a city manager in a number of Canadian municipalities. As an educator, Dr. Robertson has served as a faculty member, Dean of Business, Dean of Graduate Studies and Continuing Education and Vice President of Academic Affairs. He has taught in the United States, Canada, Europe, Brazil, Taiwan, China and Vietnam.

Throughout his career, Dr. Robertson has shown a commitment to excellence across different types of universities in the United States, Kazakhstan, Canada and Slovenia. He is experienced in new campus start-up, a large multi-campus university and managing a large online division. Robertson has extensive leadership and management experience directing teams in faculty development, new program implementation, student services, admissions, marketing, and general administration. Robertson is passionate about the student experience initially developed during his time as a university faculty member in both online and brick and mortar settings.

Dr. Robertson’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science (East Tennessee State University); Master of Arts (Eastern Kentucky University); Master of Public Administration (Dalhousie University, Canada); Master of Studies in Environmental Law (Vermont Law School); Post Graduate Diploma in International Management-China (University of London, England); Post-Doctoral Professional Certificate, International Business and Leadership (Argosy University); and a Doctor of Philosophy in Management and Organization (Stirling University, Scotland). In addition, he has completed an Executive Certificate in Strategy and Innovation at the Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Recently, Dr. Robertson was elected to the Cornwall Ontario, Canada Sports Hall of Fame for his track and field experiences.

“I am excited by the opportunity to join the BTVI team” says Dr. Robertson. “Developing workforce skills is critical to building a globally competitive economy and I am confident that BTVI can build on its tradition of excellence and contribute to achieving the goal of a globally competitive workforce.”

BTVI is the premier technical and vocational institution in The Bahamas, offering Associate of Applied Science degrees in: Electronics Engineering Installers and Repairers; Business Office Technology; Office Administration; Construction Technology; Information Technology Management; and Information Technology Management Security & Server+. The institution also offers four diplomas and a multiplicity of certificates.
