Nassau, Bahamas - If Houston is keeping a keen eye on a dynamic Bahamian woman, then maybe we should be doing the same thing here at home.

PJ Douglas Sands has been making so many positive inroads in her personal career over the years, and as the newly-appointed Senior Area Manager for The Bahamas Tourist Office in Houston, that she has been recognized as one of the top 40 young professionals in Houston took look out for.

In a city as prominent as Houston, her feat is commendable.  She was selected as one of i10media Magazine's 2016 Top 40 Under 40 Houston Professional Women to Watch.  Just weeks ago, she received yet another stellar nomination - Houston Business Journal's 2016 Top 40 Under 40.  She is scheduled to receive an award in this regard later this month, during a special awards event.

She is being recognized for her efforts in networking and showcasing The Bahamas brand in the local business community.  In addition, she was noted for her accomplishments as a speaker, brand strategist and awareness builder for the Seahorse Children's Foundation, which funds Seahorse Institute in Nassau for children with special needs, Autism and developmental delays.

She's making an impact not only in that city, but throughout North America and the Caribbean.  In 2014, she was nominated for the 2014 Bahamian Icon Award for Outstanding Entrepreneur of the Year, after successfully launching her own Caribbean branding and event Consulting Firm.  In 2013, she was recognized by Black Enterprise Magazine as one of the leading African Americans in Technology at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

Douglas-Sands has nearly 20 years experience in hotels, travel, events, branding, technology, entertainment and consulting in the private sector with extensive Caribbean economic development knowledge.  She has produced concerts, festivals, conferences and weddings, and is certified by her many clients, including celebrities like Colin Cowie, Tyrese Gibson, Bebe Winans, U2, R Kelly, Wyclef Jean, Jimmy Buffet and Lenny Kravitz.

The Bahamas Tourist Office recently appointed Douglas-Sands as a Senior Area Manager responsible for Business Development, Marketing and Sales in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Kansas and Nebraska.  In her capacity, Douglas-Sands leads the charge in Houston, Texas to develop and implement initiatives to re-introduce the brand of The Islands of The Bahamas to travel, sports, entertainment and corporate sectors.  She will re-engage and reconnect with customers, as well as develop and build relationships with key travel partners, consortiums, meeting/wedding planners, trade, media, wholesale and corporate partners.

"I am excited to take an active role in increasing the awareness of The Islands of The Bahamas while contributing to exponential growth in travel from the Southwest, communicate the marketing strategies of The Bahamas, and assist in positioning the Bahamas brand to showcase our uniquely competitive distinction among other destinations in the US, Caribbean, and North and South America," she said.

Over the past few years, Douglas-Sands has continued to give compelling speeches at events on branding, hospitality, travel and tourism-related topics, which greatly benefitted The Islands of The Bahamas and elevated the Ministry of Tourism's profile as a destination in-market.  Through travel trade engagement, her product presentations and webinars have increased the Bahamas footprint throughout the Southwest United States, resulting in growth of the MOT agent database.

This dynamic international professional also represented The Bahamas as a beauty queen.  She was first runner up in Miss Bahamas Universe 1999, which allowed her to compete for her country at the 1999 International Princess pageant.  She won the crown and stole the hearts of the international judges, who related to her warm personality, which is an attribute  for which this country is known.
