***i mage2***Nassau, Bahamas - Executives of Arawak Port Development recently hosted government officials from Bermuda to a tour of the Nassau Container Port and Gladstone Freight Terminal.   The Hon. Marc A.R. Bean, JP, MP, Bermuda’s Minister of Environment, Planning and Infrastructure Strategy and his Permanent Secretary Derrick S. Binns, Ph.D were keen to see the facilities because the government of Bermuda has a similar desire to relocate shipping interests from the country’s downtown district.

According to Mr. Binns said “Minister Bean was most impressed with the willingness of the multiple stakeholders to work together for the greater good of The Bahamas in the relocation of the port from Bay Street.  He was also impressed with the speed at which the Gladstone Freight Terminal was constructed.  As Bermuda considers the redevelopment of its own waterfront, the lessons learned from The Bahamas will place us in good stead,” he said.  The Arawak Port Development is targeted for completion by the second quarter of 2012 at a total cost of $83 million dollars.
