Disability Awareness Week - Events up to December 5th

Nassau, Bahamas - Disability Affairs Division of the   Department of   Social Services in partnership with Non Governmental Organizations concerned with disability inviting everyone to help us celebrate a very important week of activities.

Church Service at   New Life Fellowship Church, JFK Drive, on Sunday November 29 at   11 A.M.

Forum at Holy Cross Anglican Church, off Soldier Rd. on Thursday December 3, at 6 P.M.   Guest speakers form   The Ministry of Education and Ministry of Social Development in will speak on issues of Education and of The Social Safety Net as it pertains to persons with disabilities.  

Fun Day at Blue Hills Sports Complex, on Saturday, December 5; off Bue Hill Road from 10 A.M. to 3 P.M.   Come one, come all, for a fun filled day of activities….Games, Bouncing Castle, Clown, Face Painting, Music, Food.   Be prepared to have a memorable day of fun and fellowship.

Friday, December 4, 2009 @ 8:30pm “I Am Not a Dummy”

Sunday, December 6, 2009 @ 6:00pm “Autistic-Like: Graham’s Story”

“Autisticlike” a film about a boy named Grahams’ first 4 years and how his parents struggled   for a diagnosis and to provide the services that he needed. Filmmaker is Erik Linthorst, his father.

“I am Not a Dummy” a wonderful film about our own Michael Wells and his struggle to overcome disabilities.   Filmmaker is Bahamian, Kareem Mortimer.

Since 1992, the United Nations' (UN) International Day of Persons with Disabilities is annually held on December 3. It aims to increase the understanding of the issues around disabilities and attention to the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.

It also aims to increase the awareness of the gains for everybody if disabled persons are integrated into all aspects of political, social, economic and cultural life and raising money for resources for persons with disabilities .
