Today the Downtown Nassau Partnership (DNP) announced that its structure is evolving to assist its mandate to redevelop downtown Nassau
Nassau, Bahamas - The
Board of the DNP has been expanded to include representation from Kerzner
and BahaMar. Said Vernice Walkine, DNP Co-Chair, “We are absolutely
delighted that Ed Fields, Senior Vice President, Public Affairs &
Retail Services at Kerzner will be joining the Board. Ed brings a tremendous
track record of community projects that will forever provide benefits
for the people of The Bahamas. He will apply that same energy and passion
to the priority projects of the DNP, and will assist with the administration
of the DNP.”
Fields has been instrumental
in the redevelopment of Long Wharf/Western Esplanade, Montagu Foreshore,
Potters Cay improvements, Mackey Street, East Bay Street and other green
spaces throughout the island. He is also responsible for all retail
activity at Atlantis, experiences which can be applied to the downtown
retail program.
Continued Walkine,
“Joining Ed on the Board will be Vaughn Roberts, Vice President –
Finance at BahaMar and former Managing Director of the DNP, who will
therefore continue to be intimately involved in the execution of our
priority projects, most especially the need to engage young Bahamians
in building their downtown through residential, artistic and entertainment
opportunities. We are very fortunate to have continued access to Vaughn’s
store of knowledge about downtown, and his passion to make a difference.”
Added Charles Klonaris,
DNP Co-Chair, “It is a good thing to have this broad representation
of stakeholders now on the Board of the DNP. It reinforces the point
that Downtown Nassau is important to everyone. We welcome Ed and Vaughn
to the Board and very much appreciate their volunteering their time
and talents to the redevelopment of downtown, joining the other committed
members from the public and private sectors.”
About the DNP
The Downtown Nassau
Partnership (DNP) is an interim organization formed in 2008 as a joint
venture of the private and public sectors to achieve a progressive redevelopment
of the city of Nassau. One of its main tasks will be to develop a framework
for government to legislate a self-financing Business Improvement District
that will manage and promote the City of Nassau going forward.
The DNP is guided by a 13-member Board with Charles Klonaris and Vernice
Walkine as co-chairmen.
