NASSAU, The Bahamas (Jan 28, 2015) Renew Bahamas has now covered the entire perimeter of the burned area of Harold Road Landfill with fill, which was producing a significant amount of smoke from the recent fire incident.

Work crews have now moved into covering the valley between the new and old landfills. In the short term, smoke may appear to increase as it is forced into a smaller area. Once covered, however, the remaining pockets of smoke should no longer be visible off-site and no longer a nuisance to the surrounding communities and the public.

About 80 per cent of the 17 acres of the burned area has already been covered with fill. The company will continue to work on the remaining area until this has been completely covered and all smoking pockets have been extinguished.

Please be assured the company is doing everything it can with its team of contractors and the Fire Services Branch of the Royal Bahamas Police Force to bring relief.

The company will continue to post updates regarding its progress in dealing with the fire.
