Medical Assoc. of Bahamas launches 42nd Annual Scientific Conference

Nassau, Bahamas – The official opening ceremony for the 42ndAnnual Scientific Conference was held on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at the British Colonial Hilton Hotel. The Conference, which is presented by the Medical Association of The Bahamas, brings together medical and public health experts from around region. The theme of this year’s conference is ‘The Next 40 Years: Forging the Way Forward’. The two day conference serves as a platform for stakeholders to discuss and reflect upon achieving a common goal of maintaining high standards of medical practice, ethics and conduct in The Bahamas.

Mr. Lester Cox, Market Head, Business Banking for RBC Bahamas, Cayman and Turks & Caicos during remarks noted that the bank was happy to sponsor the Conference and assist with the further development of the health sector in the country. “RBC recognizes that quality health care is central to the strength and well-being of all nations. To be strong and prosperous, The Bahamas must be a nation of healthy and well citizens.” The 42nd Annual Scientific Conference will feature presentations by distinguished speakers including physicians, Chief of Services, Clinical Directors, and physical therapists. The thematic streams covered by the conference include: paediatrics; forensic pathology; cardiology; neurology; oncology; psychiatry; gynecology; hematology and nutrition. Conference speakers include: Dr. Frank Walkine MBBS, Dr. Rashida Brown-Clarke, Dr. Conville Brown MBBS, Dr. Duane Sands MD, Dr. R. Sheridan of Shriner’s Hospital, USA and more.

RBC was delighted to sponsor the opening lecture by the Chief Medical Officer of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas, Dr. Merceline Dahl-Regis. Dr. Dahl-Regis is widely respected in the medical community having been awarded for contributions to health care management, research and medical education in primary health care by the Pan American Organization in 2009. The 42nd Annual Scientific Conference will run from March 5th to March 7th, 2014 at the British Colonial Hilton Hotel.
