BET's Derek ‘Fonzworth Bentley’ Watkins to appear in Bahamas at BETA Camp

STEMBoard and the Bahamas Engineering and Technology Advancement (BETA) consortium are excited to welcome actor and musician Derek “Fonzworth Bentley” Watkins to the Bahamas Engineering and Technology Camp. The day camp, which is free for participants, will be held July 28-Aug. 1 at the College of the Bahamas.

Watkins, host of BET’s Lift Every Voice, will lead lessons from his book “Advance Your Swagger: How to Use Manners, Confidence, and Style to Get Ahead” on personal branding, business etiquette and professionalism. Highlights from his appearance include:

- July 28: Watkins will discuss key points from his book. Students will each receive an autographed copy. This event is open to the public.

- July 30: Watkins will host a sit-down meal with students to teach professional dining etiquette. - Aug. 1: Watkins will emcee the graduation ceremony.

Students in grades 7-9 may apply at www.betac242.com. Enrollment is limited to 60, and candidates will be selected based on the strength of their applications.

About BETA Camp

BETA Camp is designed to introduce Bahamian students to science and math fundamentals while helping them build a strong foundation in engineering. With generous support from Rocket Fuel “Gives Back”, a philanthropic program of Rocket Fuel Inc., BETA Camp will help address a dire need in the Bahamas for educational intervention through hands-on learning and exposure in chemical and biochemical engineering, mechanical and aerospace engineering, civil and environmental engineering, electrical engineering, computer science and web development.
