Nassau Pan-hellenic Council to honour outstanding members at Bahamas Greek Hall of Fame Ceremony

The President, Officers and Members of the Nassau, Bahamas Pan-Hellenic Council, the local Council of the nine historically black fraternities and sororities, would like to announce the selection of two individuals who will be inducted into the Bahamas Greek Hall of Fame for 2017. The primary purpose of the Bahamas Greek Hall of Fame is to recognize Bahamian Fraternity or Sorority members for outstanding contributions made to the development of Greek Life in The Bahamas. The individuals being inducted into the Hall of Fame may have assisted in gaining exposure for the local council, their chapter and indeed The Bahamas.
 
The Bahamas Greek Hall of Fame committee have decided to induct Ms. Tanya Woodside, a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and Mr. Raymond Winder, a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., as the 2017 Inductees.
 
Tanya Woodside, a Life and Ruby Member, was initiated into Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. on March 26, 1990 at Texas A & M University, College Station. She is the Charter President of the Lambda Lambda Chapter, College Station, Texas (1990) and Kappa Delta Sigma Alumnae Chapter, Nassau, Bahamas (2006). Tanya is the first member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority to hold an officer position on the Nassau, Bahamas Pan-Hellenic Council, the Greek Step Show Judging Committee and The Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Foundation. She was awarded the NPHC Soror of the Year 2003/2004 for her visibility to the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority brand that served as the impetus to attract other aspiring ladies to either join or for those already members to reactivate their membership. She was the “beacon of light” that pioneered the chartering of the local chapter on September 2, 2006, along with the support of six other courageous sisters. In the ensuring years, Tanya Woodside would take the time to start her own business, Woodside Insurance Brokerage Limited. Tanya holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology with a concentration in Human Resources and Organizational Management from Texas A & M University.
 
Raymond Livingston Winder, was initiated into the Alpha Beta Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity at Jackson State University in 1979. He is currently a member of the Delta Epsilon Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity in Nassau, Bahamas and presidential advisor over the past 3 years. Raymond attended Jackson State University in Mississippi where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and a Master’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Houston.

Mr. Winder is a Certified Public Accountant and is the first Bahamian Certified Valuation Analyst. He has spent over thirty-six (36) years in the professional accounting experience in The Bahamas, the Caribbean, Canada and the United States of America, of which the last thirty-three (33) years have been with Deliotte & Touche Accounting Firm. Since June 1, 2004, he assumed the Managing Partner of Deliotte. Raymond is the Past President of The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce; Former Ambassador / Chief Negotiator for the Bahamas to WTO Accession (2010) and Chairman, Junior Achievement Bahamas (2009 to the present). He is married to Addie Winder, a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
 
In 2004, The Nassau, Bahamas Pan-Hellenic Council established the Bahamas Greek Hall of Fame to recognize Outstanding Greek Members who made a valuable contribution to the development of Greekdom locally and/or internationally and have made a significant contribution to their respective community.

Mitchell (2012) Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; Phenton Neymour (2013) Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.; Beverly Wallace Whitfield (2013) Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; Carol Hanna (2014) Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.; Laura Pratt-Charlton (2014) Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; Rosemary Braynen (2015) Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.; Ida Turnquest-Poitier (2015) Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; Hon. K. Peter Turnquest (2016) Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and Carolynn Hall-Knowles (2016) Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

In addition, The Council will honour Mrs. Jacqueline Bethel, Former Principal of Xavier’s Lower School. She will receive the 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award (Non-Greek). The Nassau, Bahamas Pan-Hellenic Council – Lifetime Achievement Award was designed to salute an individual who is not a member of one of the historically African-American Fraternities of Sororities and has made a substantial contribution to the local community.
 
The Council will also use this occasion to salute several other outstanding members of the fraternal community for their contribution to their respective community.

The Induction Ceremony will be held on Saturday, October 21st, 2017 at British Colonial Hilton Hotel – 7pm. The event will be held under the patronage of the Hon K. Peter Turnquest, Deputy Prime Minister of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas and 2016 NPHC Greek Hall of Fame Inductee. The event is open to the general public.
