Nassau, Bahamas —Through the generosity of customers and staff of KFC Nassau in the franchise’s global annual fight against hunger, its World Hunger Relief (WHR) Campaign generated nearly $60,000 – an amount that almost tripled the donations received from its previous record-breaking fundraiser late last year. The Yum! Brands-sponsored campaign, which began on September 1st and concluded on November 2nd, allowed customers to make monetary donations while purchasing their favourite meals from any of the eight KFC Nassau locations. In addition, KFC Nassau’s corporate office staff took the pledge to join in the campaign by also making donations for the great cause.

Half of the total funds raised, more than $29,000, is allocated to Bahamian hunger relief and food rescue agency Hands for Hunger, which serves several social service agencies here in the Bahamas. The remaining half of the funds go directly to Yum! Brands’ World Hunger Relief, which benefits the United Nations World Food Programme, the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger.

“We are so thrilled at the incredible success of this important initiative in the fight against hunger, and we’re grateful to our loyal customers, staff and the Bahamian community who heard our call to action against this epidemic that often goes unnoticed in our community,” said Eldira Backford, Ambassador for KFC Nassau’s World Hunger Relief Campaign. “The support for the campaign has been so amazing, and the generosity of donations will assist tremendously in bringing food relief to many Bahamians.”

KFC Nassau held its cheque and award presentation on November 10th, honoring its staff who played a pivotal role in this year’s campaign, and presenting Hands for Hunger with a cheque of $29,386.41, which will assist in providing over 29,000 meals to Bahamians in need.

“At KFC Nassau, we know that the increased demand for hunger relief is a growing crisis and we’re happy to once again partner with Hands for Hunger to help bring more nutritious meals to Bahamians that face hunger daily. This annual partnership is a tremendous asset to our campaign and we look forward to partnering with Hands for Hunger again in their continuous work towards the goal of ending hunger in The Bahamas,” Backford stated.
