Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity elects new administration

New President: Derek W. Smith Jr – Delta Epsilon Sigma Chapter President

Nassau, Bahamas - Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity local graduate chapter has elected a new administration, bringing to its forefront a cadre of innovative and community minded leaders under the theme, 'Culture for Service – Bringing GOMAB back'. The Delta Epsilon Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc located in Nassau, Bahamas elected young businessman and youth leader Derek W. Smith Jr. as its president for the 2014-2016 term at its recent elections.

The new administration will focus on youth development programs for young men through their internationally recognized Sigma Beta Club,   promote financial management via the newly introduced Project S.E.E.D. (Sigma Economic Empowerment Development) and increase the number of underrepresented youth, especially males, that are properly prepared to pursue alternative careers via Project S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics). Additionally, the fraternity will seek to solidifying new partnerships while continuing to collaborate with Junior Achievement Bahamas, Special Olympics, The Elizabeth Estates Children's Home and The Red Cross.

"As our fraternity has recently celebrated 100 years of service to the community, our chapter is poised  to continue the legacy of founders and charter members by combining the passionate Bahamian spirit with globally recognized programs geared to enhance the thinking, motivation and opportunities of our fellow Bahamians", said Derek W. Smith Jr.. He added that "Sigma has always answered the call for men to act both locally and internationally. We believe that through our community involvement, programs, multifaceted initiatives and partnerships that we can help curb many social ills."

The Executive Board of the Delta Epsilon Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma includes Derek W. Smith Jr. – President, Nathaniel Beneby III – 1st Vice President, Christopher Saunders – 2nd Vice President, Kendric Albury – Treasurer, Adriel Marshall – Financial Secretary, Ayden Cargill - Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary – Owen Rolle, Fr. Richard Wood – Chaplain, Harrison Lockhart – Parliamentarian, Rodney Bain – Director of Sigma Beta Club, Esmond Johnson – Director of Bigger and Better Business, Ramon Pearson – Director of Social Action and Rashard Young – Director of Education. Gerrard Sawyer is the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. State Director for The Bahamas.
