Singularity University Nassau to Explore and Foster the Use of Exponential Technologies for Impact, Innovation and Change to Address the Grand Challenges Communities face in The Bahamas and Surrounding Region.

Nassau, Bahamas - Singularity University (SU), a global community with a mission to educate, inspire, and empower leaders to apply exponential technologies to address humanity's grand challenges has established a local SU chapter and formal partnership in Nassau, Bahamas with leadership team members Dr. Desiree Cox, Dr. Charles Diggiss, Travis Miller, Michael Fountain Jr., Mark Palmer, Felicity Humblestone, Stanley ‘Chike’ Burnside, Llewellyn Boyer-Cartwright, Dr. Jonathan Rodgers and Victoria Sarne.

“We’re excited to support The Bahamas as an innovation hub for exponential technologies in this region of the Americas,” said Dr. Desiree Cox, Singularity University social impact fellow and the ambassador of SU Nassau. “I believe we can use exponential technologies to address the challenges of health and social equity in The Bahamas and create an abundant future for everyone. That is what inspired me to reach out to Singularity University to establish a Nassau Chapter and formal partnership. While SU is not a traditional university that offers degrees, its programs are an important complement to the for-credit curricula at select universities and innovative entrepreneurs in The Bahamas.”

SU Chapters are created in partnership with local program participants and SU alumni, and are located in some of the most innovative and upcoming global technology centers in the world.

“As our regional leadership teams build support in local communities for the development of exponential technologies, the ability to make meaningful global and local impact grows,” said Dharmishta Rood, Director of Community Leadership at SU. “Our new Chapter in Nassau marks another milestone in the scale and scope of our Singularity University community and demonstrates that innovation to make an impact is taking place everywhere in the world.”

SU Chapters are central to enabling local regions to jump-start innovation through the curation of events featuring local experts, sponsorship of SU Global Impact Challenges (GICs), and other initiatives at the local level. Since launching the first program in 2015, SU Chapters have hosted a number of unique events focused on applying exponential technologies to create impact. In 2016, SU Chapters launched nearly 200 events, involving more than 13,000 attendees.

SU focuses on solving the world’s greatest challenges through the use of exponential technologies — those which are rapidly accelerating and shaping major industries and all aspects of our lives, including artificial intelligence (AI), augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR), data science, digital biology, medicine, nanotech and digital fabrication, networks and computing systems, and robotics.

SU sits at the intersection of technology, impact, and business, and advances its mission globally through 83 SU Chapters in 48 countries.

“Since the 2013 and 2014 laws and regulations around Stem Cell therapy and research, The Bahamas has been emerging as a leader in Regenerative Medicine,” said Dr. Cox. “As the first SU Chapter in the Caribbean we have an opportunity to lead the cultivation of an ecosystem that inspires innovation and access to new opportunities for local and international inventors, entrepreneurs, champions of sustainability, design-thinkers, and young people from all walks of life.”

The SU Nassau Chapter leadership team aims to create events in the spirit of SU’s mission to increase local awareness, drive ideas, impact, and change using exponential technology while addressing the grand challenges communities face in The Bahamas and the surrounding region.
