On Wednesday, October 23, the U.S. Embassy in Nassau and the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institution (BTVI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding, agreeing to make BTVI host of the new EducationUSA Advising Center in The Bahamas. Dr. Robert Robertson, President of BTVI, and Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Embassy, Daniel Durazo, signed the memorandum at the Melia Nassau All Inclusive Beach Resort, with the support of the Minister of Education, the Honorable Jeffrey Lloyd, and Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Philip Laidlaw. Minister Lloyd said the moment is most favorable not only for BTVI, but for education in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. He noted that the new Education USA Advising Center is a statement of the Embassy’s confidence in the relationship between the United States and the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.
Dr. Robertson also highlighted the significance of BTVI’s new partnership with the U.S. Embassy, noting that for the past three years he has seen quite a bit of interest from students across The Bahamas in studying in the United States. The new EducationUSA Advising Center, scheduled to open in early 2020 on the BTVI campus, will be the official source of information and guidance for anyone in The Bahamas interested in studying at a college or university in the United States. This includes young students, adults who wish to continue their education, or parents researching options for their children, as well as anyone else who wants information about studying in the United States. There are over 4,700 accredited institutions in all 50 U.S. states, with programs ranging from highly specialized tracks in specific fields of study, to flexible curriculums that let students forge their own path. Students in the United States can also choose from a spectrum that includes small liberal arts colleges and huge public institutions with tens of thousands of students, as well as many options in between.
