Nassau, Bahamas – As part of the Inter-American Bank (IDB) loan to improve the Water and Sewerage Corporation (WSC) services and capabilities, WSC recently signed a one million dollar contract with Adin Holdings Ltd, an international water consulting and solutions company based in Israel. This loan follows an international competitive bidding process, focuses on New Providence and supports WSC in non-revenue water reduction, WSC Institutional Strengthening, Rehabilitation and upgrades of wastewater infrastructure and preparation of a Wastewater Treatment Master Plan and Upgrading the legal and regulatory framework.

Adin Holdings Ltd. along with its partners in this project: HGM Consulting Engineers & Planners Ltd and Integrated Building Services (IBS) Ltd. are leading environmental and civil engineering consultants. The HGM consultants have experience working in the Caribbean having just completed a Master Plan for the City of Georgetown, Guyana and Integrated Building Services (IBS) Ltd. is a well-known local engineering firm that is highly active in the Bahamas on infrastructure and related projects.

As many can attest sewerage services in New Providence does not presently meet the needs of the environment or the population. In addition, there are low levels of sewerage coverage and an urgent need for refurbishing and expanding sewerage services to existing and new developments. In some areas, existing infrastructure is in a poor state, often resulting in minimal treatment of wastewater prior to disposal.The objective of this contract is to develop a 20 year Wastewater Master Plan which provides a comprehensive framework for suitably rectifying current conditions and implementing environmentally friendly, sustainable wastewater services in the future. The Master Plan will address collection, treatment, and disposal needs and includes technical, economic, social, environmental and financial analysis for the proposed works.

This contract is expected to last 12 months with the improvement and upgrades identified in the immediate term to be completed within the next two to three years. WSC is looking forward to working closely with the consultants and the IDB in this major step to improving sewerage services throughout New Providence.
