NASSAU, Bahamas – Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada), is now formally recognized as an approved professional body by the Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA).

The BICA Act 2015 and accompanying regulations (General, Disciplinary and Committee) provide terms and conditions for qualified CPA Canada professionals, based in the Bahamas, to apply for membership and for the issuance of a license to practice public accounting.

“Members of Council look forward to a cooperative relationship with CPA Canada,” says Darnell Osborne, president (BICA) on behalf of the Institute.

Nancy Foran, CPA Canada vice-president, international, the Americas, welcomes the formal recognition for her organization and appreciates the spirit of cooperation from BICA. “We look forward to working with the accounting community in the Bahamas to grow and develop the profession” she adds.

CPA Canada is also recognized in the Eastern Caribbean, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Jamaica and Guyana and is an Affiliate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Caribbean (ICAC).

Foran notes that someone based in the Bahamas, wishing to obtain the Canadian CPA designation, does not need to travel outside the region to do so. The majority of the study can be done online with the few in-person sessions being offered locally.

“Canadian CPA’s enjoy true global recognition,” Foran added, noting that there are over 200,000 Canadian CPAs worldwide.
