The 5th Annual Royal Fidelity Bahamas Economic Outlook announced

Nassau, Bahamas - Royal Fidelity Merchant Bank & Trust Limited announced that its 2019 Bahamas Economic Outlook Conference will be held on Tuesday, February 26th under the theme, “Dynamic New World: Braving the Turmoil”. The one day event will be held at the Baha Mar convention Centre and is an accredited Continuing Professional Development (CPD) provider.

“The global economy is effectively under attack”, says Michael Anderson, President of Royal Fidelity. “Political divisions and other tensions in the United States, triggered by the Trump administration’s preference for unilateral action and an increasingly nationalistic stance, have called into question the role the US will play in the world over the next several years. Similarly, the rise in nationalism across Europe, which has resulted in Brexit and is causing governments across Europe to have to implement reforms to remain elected will likely lead to further turmoil in the years to come.

Despite these issues, this new era also holds some unique opportunities. Medical technologies are advancing at an alarming rate. Today’s genetic revolution is such that DNA can be edited as easily as the words on a computer. Within this revolution, there lies potential cures to diseases, preservation of endangered species and even the solution for world hunger. The opportunities are endless but the risks are real. This year’s theme was derived from the book “Brave New World” written by Aldous Huxley in the 1930’s which forecast a number of the challenges we are encountering in this “dynamic new world” and challenges us to be brave enough to deal with them.”

The conference’s keynote speaker is economist and author, Noreena Hertz. Her best-selling books, The Silent Takeover, IOU: The Debt Threat and Eyes Wide Open, are published in 23 countries. She is also a regular commentator in publications like The New York Times, The Guardian, The Washington Post, The Financial Times and The Wall Street Journal. Noreena’s presentation “The Five Forces of Disruption and How to Navigate Them” will focus on the key geopolitical, economic, societal, demographic and technological forces that are transforming the world.

Jamie will help to answer important questions like “how will genetic technology impact healthcare, the business community and the human race?”
