Team Sip a Sands with Stephanie Cleare, Carisma Tucker, Jim Forrest, Kandice Davis, Diane de Cardenas, and Shar Hanson prepare for the first round of games

Nassau, The Bahamas — Instead of hitting various pavement and bush trails on the island of New Providence, the Nassau Hash House Harriers forwent tennis shoes for bare feet and switched into team "Sip a Sands" mode for the annual Sandy Toe'lympics at Sandy Toes Resort on Rose Island last Sunday. The team's athletic skills helped them navigate a series of outrageous team events which included digging a chicken out of the sand while blindfolded and tied their partner's leg. Team member James Forrest said, "that was as much fun as I'd ever thought I would have with a running club. We had a real run the following Monday near Caves Village and it was much different from the beach activities." The team was easy to spot during the events because you only had to follow the bright green Sands Light Beer shirts.

Runners, walkers, and other interested people are welcome to join the Hash House Harriers for their run this Monday, August 1 at 6:30pm. The group will meet at the Eastern Parade across from the Green Parrot on East Bay Street. The group goes for self pay dinner and drinks after the run.

The Hash House Harriers is an international group of non-competitive running social clubs. An event organized by a club is known as a hash or hash run, with participants calling themselves hashers or hares and hounds. After the run members gather at a local restaurant for dinner, drinks, and fellowship. The objectives of the Hash House Harriers include promoting physical fitness, to get rid of weekend hangovers, to acquire a good thirst and to satisfy it in beer, to persuade the older members that they are not as old as they feel!
