Sir Clifford Darling, no stranger to Bahamian politics, played quite an active role in that arena; he was a Senator from 1964–67, Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly
from 1967-69, Minister of State in 1969, Labour and Welfare in 1971
and Labour and National Insurance from 1974-77. He was Speaker of the
House of Assembly from 1977 until becoming Governor-General in 1992.
During his earlier years, he worked as a taxi cab driver, and served as both the general secretary, and president of the Bahamas Taxi Cab Union.
The Bahamas Weekly News Team sends our sincere condolences to his widow, Lady Ingrid
and the entire family of Sir Clifford on his passing.
