The
government of Guatemala, through a statement recently sent to the
Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José
Miguel Insulza, made official its offer to host the XLIII Regular
Session of the OAS General Assembly, to be held in June of 2013.
The
letter, sent by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Harold Caballeros, was
shared with the members of the Permanent Council during their recent
session by the Alternative Representative of Guatemala, Lionel Maza, who
reiterated the “historic commitment” of that country “with the
principles and objectives contained in the Organization’s main
instruments.”
The offer will be evaluated by the Member States
during the June General Assembly to be held in Cochabamba. “The
Guatemalan people will be honored if the offer is accepted. We are
certain that the conditions and circumstances in which the meeting would
be held are the right ones for the analysis of the hemispheric agenda,
and to arrive at consensus and decisions that impact the welfare and
future of our people,” asserted the Guatemalan representative.
The XLII OAS General Assembly will be held this year in Cochabamba, Bolivia, from June 3-5.
