The new Permanent Representative of Peru to the Organization of American States (OAS), José Manuel Boza Orozco, today presented his credentials to the Secretary General of the Organization, Luis Almagro.

At the ceremony, which took place at the Organization's headquarters in Washington, DC, Ambassador Boza stressed that the OAS "is the political forum where hemispheric coexistence and neighborliness come alive, through dialogue, debate, consultation and cooperation." "We are convinced that the strength of the OAS lies in the values that unite us in response to the needs, desires and demands of our citizens," added the Permanent Representative of Peru.

For his part, Secretary General Almagro recalled that the strength of the OAS is that "it has the institutional capacity to channel multilateral dialogue. These values are embodied in the Inter-American regulations, which distinguish us from the rest of the world as a multilateral organization. " He also took the opportunity to highlight the work of the government of Peru in the last Summit of the Americas, "promoting significant mandates that we have the obligation to implement. We must move forward in the outline and proposal that the Lima Declaration has drawn up."

Peru was one of the 21 signatory countries of the founding charter of the OAS in 1948, and hosted the General Assembly where the Inter-American Democratic Charter was adopted in 2001.
